California Roll Sushi Bowls are a delicious and easy-to-make twist on traditional sushi, featuring fresh ingredients and vibrant flavors.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 cucumber, julienned
  • 1/2 pound imitation crab meat, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 4 sheets nori, cut into strips
  • Soy sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a pot, combine the rinsed rice and water, and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved.
  5. Once the rice is cooked, remove from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes.
  6. Fluff the rice with a fork and mix in the vinegar mixture.
  7. In serving bowls, layer the sushi rice, avocado, cucumber, and crab meat.
  8. Sprinkle sesame seeds and add nori strips on top.
  9. Serve with soy sauce on the side.

Notes

  • Feel free to add other toppings like radish or pickled ginger.
  • For a spicy kick, add sriracha or spicy mayo.
  • Make sure to use sushi-grade fish if you prefer raw ingredients.
